SAG Awards, Newsweek, & Ally
[Feb.04/2001]
Robert was recently nominated for a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) award for "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series" for Ally McBeal. The awards will be aired on March 11th on TNT. Also, a reminder on the TV Guide Awards which will air a few days earlier on March 7th.
***
Robert is on the cover of the current issue of Newsweek (Feb.12 issue). The magazine has done a special report on addiction, and included is a lengthy article on Robert. Click here to view the article online. This issue will be on newsstands this week.
***
As you probably already know, Robert has signed on to do 11 more episodes of Ally McBeal. I held off on announcing this when the news first broke, because no deals had been made. It was stated several times that they were in negotiations, so I figured I'd wait. But alas, Robert has been reported as being on set this past week.. and I've also heard that what was supposed to be his last show (This Monday- Feb.05) has had some changes, and that you guys won't have to wait too long before his return. A Valentines Day themed spoiler also got out, that mentioned it will involve phone conversations with Ally & Larry, and that sometime soon Rhea Perlman will guest star as Ally's shrink to help her with her Larry woes. Who knows though, it's all in the TV rumor mill.
Congrats Robert!!! (and lotsa other news)
[Jan.22/2001]
The picture says it all. Robert won a Golden Globe on Sunday for Best Supporting Actor for Ally McBeal. Yess! We knew you could do it Robert!! For more pictures from the event and others that have taken place recently, click here for pictures.
***
Robert was Trudie Styler's guest the other night at the premiere for Guy Ritchie's new film, Snatch. For pictures from this event, click on the link in the paragraph above.
**
Also this week, Robert was present at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association awards dinner, to accept the Best Supporting Actress award on Frances McDormand's behalf for Wonder Boys and Almost Famous
**
For those wondering (no pun intended, honest) when Wonder Boys is actually going to be released on video (every ad says Jan.9th) it's been held back by the studio, due to Oscar consideration or some suchness, and it may not be released now until March. It's all a mystery it seems, so if I hear anything I'll post it.
TV Guide Awards & Ally Stuff
[Jan.09/2001]
Robert has been nominated for a TV Guide Award for "Best Supporting Actor" for Ally McBeal. The even better news here, is that the public can vote in this. To vote for Robert, and other categories, head on over to the nomination form at
http://www.tvguide.com/awards2001
The awards will air on March 7th. You never know, we could get him to win this. I vaguely remember the first year the awards aired, any category having to do with David Duchovny won due to his infamous internet following. So, you never know guys! ;-)
Some people have been asking where to write to David E Kelley, to show their support and "thumb's up" of Robert's addition to Ally McBeal. Send all mail here:

For those also wondering what brand of glasses Robert wears on the show, its been said that they're Gucci.
Golden Globes & Court Date
[Dec.27/2000]
Two very contrasting pieces of news here..
Last week, it was announced that Robert has been nominated for a Golden Globe for "Best Supporting Actor" on Ally McBeal. Congrats Robert! To view all the nominees, click here.
More importantly though, today is Robert's court hearing in Indio California regarding the charges made against him last month. His lawyers have asked that no fans rally and "protest" outside the courthouse. While there is nothing anyone can do to stop people from making it a bigger scene than it already will be, I figured it wouldn't hurt to pass on the wishes of Robert & his lawyers. Either way, we're all behind you Robert and will be thinking of you today. Good luck.
(Note: I'm writing this quite early in the morning- 5am EST. I probably won't be able to get any net access until tomorrow if I'm lucky to report on what has happened since. Check Yahoo later today for their news updates.)
What song was that??
[Dec.02/2000]
Many have been wondering what the song was that Robert sang on last week's show, and where they can get it. The song was a cover of Joni Mitchell's "River", and can be heard on the Ally McBeal Christmas album that came out last month, "A Very Ally Christmas"
Order A Very Ally Christmas from Amazon.com

Also, for those wondering when the last of Robert's Ally episodes will be airing, it should be sometime in Jan-Feb 2001.
The latest on Robert
[Nov.29/2000]
If anyone is wondering why it has taken me so long to update the page with this news, it is because I've been having major server problems. I've been doing updates, but can't get them online. I decided to keep everything I had written tho. I do admit that I did wait a day or so until I decided to write anything, because I wasn't exactly eager to jump on the net and update with this news.
Hopefully all the technical glitches on my end are panned out, so I can get back to updating this :P
I've gotten many emails asking where they can find the latest news articles on Robert. Try clicking over to Yahoo, as they seem to have the biggest source of recent articles about Robert that are updated constantly.
To everyone:
[Nov.28/2000]
In the past two days I've received more email from visitors to this site, than I ever had at any other time. Very little of it has been negative, which is always a nice surprise. The number one question everyone has asked me seems to be "How can I contact Robert directly?" Trust me, that's a question too many of us would like an answer to. I'd love it if I could pass along all these emails to him.. They've been so great. I'm still trying to find a way however. I refuse to let them just sit here on my computer.
I'm not going to post my opinions, as I've drained it all out of me in emails to the list, or other people in general who've emailed me. There isn't much left to say.
Entertainment Weekly, and more Ally stuff
[Oct.29/2000]
Look for the latest (Nov.4) issue of Entertainment Weekly, which features Robert and Calista on the cover.
****
Also, some were wondering if Robert was going to be seen on Ally in the next few episodes, since they began shooting before he was signed on. Truthfully, I have no idea. Some have said he won't be in the next two shows, next four shows, and some say they've seen him in previews for this Monday's show. My advice is to watch it either way, if you don't want to miss one of his episodes.
****
Its also been heard that there will be an Ally McBeal Christmas album, where two songs will be sung by Robert. I haven't seen a tracklisting yet for the album, so I don't know if he'll really be on it. But if you want to pre-order it anyway, you can from amazon.com.

And lastly, check out the Official Ally McBeal website for pictures, chats, message boards, and news on the show. According to one of the site moderators, they'd really like for Robert to come in for a full one hour chat with just him. So, if you want it, go check out the site, and flood them with requests ;-) The person I talked to there was pretty cool, and they'll read your emails for sure (as opposed to them being sent to some stuffed shirt who could care less).
Chat with the cast of Ally
[Oct.23/2000]
After the premiere of the show tonight, there will be a chat session over at www.allymcbeal.com with the cast of the show. Robert won't be there, but I figured I'd mention it, since a bunch of fans will be there anyway.
The chat starts at 10pm EST
Details, Hamlet, & Ally
[Oct.19/2000]
I've been busy with school, but I'm sure y'all know about this by now. Robert is on the cover of Details magazine. It's still in stores, so check it out if you havent already.
Also, Mel Gibson will supposedly be directing a stage production of Hamlet, which Robert will be starring in sometime next year (more will be said about this as the info comes).
And a reminder: Next Monday is Robert's debut on Ally McBeal. There have been a ton of commercials on Fox for it, and Calista will be on Jay Leno tonight (Oct.19th), where the mention of Robert will probably come up. So watch that too, if you're interested.

Sorry for the delay with this news (I was away on vacation for a week). Here is the scoop:
Robert has been signed on to guest star in the first 8 episodes of Ally McBeal. The first episode airs on Oct.23, and he'll be receiving a not-too-shabby pay of $75,000 an episode. For more on his character, cast reaction, and other details, check these articles:

Robert on the Today Show
[July.30/2000]
Earlier this week, The Today Show ran an interview with Robert from prison. Those who missed it, can catch it here:

August Issue of Vanity Fair
[July.06/2000]
Check out the latest issue of Vanity Fair (with Heath Ledger on the cover) for an in depth interview with Robert. Its on sale now, so check your local stores. You can email vfmail@vf.com if you'd like to ask about ordering an issue, or wait and email FAIR@neodata.com and order it as a back issue.
The interview itself took place over many months, with the interviewer (Steve Garbarino) visiting Robert on several occasions. Also interviewed were Deborah Falconer, Allyson Downey, Robert Sr., Josh Richman, Michael Douglas, Sean Penn, and a few of his cell mates, amongst others.
Press Release
[June.23/2000]
The following is a press release from Robert's lawyers:
Yesterday, June 12, 2000, in federal district court in Los Angeles, Robert
Downey Jr. filed his habeas corpus petition asking the federal district court
to order him released on bond while his appeal proceeds in the California
state appellate courts. Mr. Downey has resorted to seeking relief from the
Los Angeles federal district court because the state appellate court has
denied him bail pending appeal without any explanation whatsoever and the
California Supreme Court denied Mr. Downey's petition to review that
decision.
Mr. Downey and his attorneys believe that the state courts denial of his
request for bail pending appeal directly contradicts California's bail
statute which contains mandatory language compelling the state to release
defendants on bail pending appeal if there is no risk of flight, no danger to
the community, and a substantial issue on appeal. Mr. Downey meets all of
these prerequisites. Yet, the state courts refuse to grant Mr. Downey's
request for bail pending appeal. Since there is no rational basis for the
state courts one sentence summary denials of Mr. Downey's requests for bail
pending appeal, Mr. Downey now seeks this relief from the federal court.
While asking a federal court to grant bail pending appeal to an individual
incarcerated in the state system is a rarely-invoked legal mechanism, this
case presents a unique situation warranting such relief. Specifically, in his
state appeal, Mr. Downey contends that, under California law governing
pre-sentencing custody credits and concurrent sentencing requirements, he has
already served his time and should be immediately released. Because this
issue is so significant with respect to Mr. Downey's incarceration, and the
California bail statute contains mandatory release language, bail pending
appeal is the correct resolution of this dispute.
Robert Documentary
[June.23/2000]
Last Party Members & friends of Roberts got together recently in New York City, to be interviewed for a documentary a fellow LP member/film maker, Leslie Delano, is shooting about Robert. It was a cool lil experience for a nobody like me,lol.. but more so, it was great meeting everyone, and hearing the different points of view everyone had to share. I can't wait to see how it all turns out :-)

GQ & Vanity Fair
[March.13/2000]
The latest issue of GQ (with Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford on the cover) has an interview with Robert in prison, by, James Toback (who directed him in The Pick-Up Artist, Two Girls and a Guy, and most recently, Black & White)
There is supposedly going to be a lengthy article on Robert in the May issue of Vanity Fair. No clue as to the truth of this, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Wonder Boys
[Feb.22/2000]
Just a reminder to everyone that Wonder Boys will be out on Friday. For those who've forgotten, I had mentioned this movie on the page last year when Robert was filming it (some people emailed me about how they met him on the set). anywho, even though the commercials don't even mention his existance in the movie.. He's there. So, check it out when you can.
Messages From Robert..
[Jan.17/2000]
I've set up a little archive of messages from Robert from the past few months. These messages have been passed along through a friend of his. Much thanks to everyone involved.. Stuff like this isn't expected, but we greatly appreciate that it is done at all :-)
Robert's Messages:
Update..
[Jan.17/2000]
I've received emails from many of you, asking me when exactly Robert is supposed to be released from jail. The last I heard, has been sometime in, Nov.2000.
Calling All Fans/Supporters..
A new website created by some of Robert's fans will be up within the next few days. http://www.geocities.com/reallyfreerobert/ It was made after the orginal 'free Robert' site that Robert's family had started, (freerobertdowneyjr.com) had come to an end when his family had claimed supposed 'victory' and asked people to stop campaigning more or less. Anyways.. For those who will start to rant at me... the point of both sites is not to 'free' Robert altogether, but to get him, and other non-violent addicts alike moved to a rehab.. or at least create some kind of awareness on the whole issue for all the ignorant people out there. If you'd like more info, check the site mentioned regularly..
Black & White Canadian Premiere
I was at the 'Canadian Premiere' of Black & White at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept.15/1999. James Toback and others were there to talk to the audience before hand.. He brought up Robert and said some nice things about him.. Then totally bashed Judge Mira. I would quote him, but I dont remember word for word what he said.. It was something along the lines of that Robert wasnt there because of 'some sick twisted judge who gets a kick out of throwing him in jail everytime he gets high" or something like that. Anyways.. The movie was.. interesting. Robert was hilarious however, and the audience loved his performance. Ben Stiller was good in it too.. very weird, but it worked :-)
